CACE and IGES Forge New Partnership to Amplify Global Climate Action
The Gulf Organization for Research and Development‘s Climate Action Center of Excellence (GORD/CACE) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MOUC), marking a significant step forward in collaborative climate action efforts.
This new partnership will leverage the strengths of both organizations to accelerate the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, focusing on capacity building, technical assistance, and the development of Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) markets. Together, GORD/CACE and IGES aim to catalyze substantial advancements in sustainable development goals through strategic support and enhanced transparency in ITMO transfers.
Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD/CACE, said the agreement represents a critical milestone in ongoing efforts to foster sustainable environmental practices globally. “By combining our resources and expertise, we are setting a solid framework for significant contributions towards carbon market solutions and climate finance mobilization,” he said.
Alexandra Soezer, CACE Director said joint initiatives are specifically designed to empower regions and industries with significant challenges in their decarbonization efforts. “The specialized expertise from IGES’s Article 6 Implementation Partnership Center is crucial,” she added, “providing us with the necessary support and guidance to ensure these efforts are not only effective but also sustainable.”
Professor Kazuhiko Takeuchi, President of IGES, also commented on the collaboration: “We are delighted to partner with GORD/CACE to enhance the quality and integrity of climate projects,” he said. “Our shared commitment to environmental integrity and sustainable development is stronger than ever with this MOUC, and we look forward to transforming our joint visions into actionable outcomes.”
Mr. Kazuhisa Koakutsu, Director of A6IP Center, emphasized that the collaboration with GORD/CACE provides a tangible case of how to engage with partners under the Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) to accelerate the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and enhance the market integrity.
According to the agreement, the partnership will last two years. It will involve various activities, including capacity-building workshops, stakeholder engagement, and initiating high-quality emission reduction projects. Both organizations will explore additional cooperative ventures beyond the current scope to extend their impact on global climate action further.
